And they were considered a luxury for the few. Only powerful men possessed them. Among these were the Pharaohs who wore mostly knitted stockings.
Subsequently they assumed a protective function: the men of the Roman Empire , for example, used them to wrap their legs, ankles and feet with wool or canvas fabrics, the tiabiles.
It was during the Middle Ages that they transformed from a tool to protect themselves to a real piece of clothing, always and only for the upper and wealthier classes. During this period, knit socks first began to spread, then silk ones. In 1400 the tights arrived.
In the 16th century more and more artisan shops began to use new, more performing looms and this allowed the production of hosiery to spread even more among the less well-off population.
But it is with the industrial boom that this development accelerates thanks to the fact that textile production is mechanized and rationalised. At the same time, the frame also evolves.
Despite this, for years, socks remained considered simply underwear, especially men's ones. With the growing myth of the bourgeoisie (1800) the idea of a reassuring and sober male figure spread. Little space for imaginative colors and geometries in the clothing, especially on the socks that were still covered by the trousers.

Unlike other hosiery factories, the socks are not produced in an industrial way, but go through a quality control at each stage of production which combines the work of the machine with the manual work of the craftsman. Finally, each sock is inspected, ironed and washed by hand.
