Are socks all the same?
They are not and this is why.

To produce a high-quality sock, many elements must come together. The foremost among these is the quality of the raw materials, followed by the subsequent processing of these materials.

Each individual step entails a cost and a level of complexity in execution. Only a few have the right expertise, and even fewer are willing to spend more to achieve the highest quality.

Below, you can see the step-by-step process of creating our socks. From row materials to your feet!

Filoscozia® certified

The term "mercerized cotton" refers to a treatment process that enhances the durability and luster of cotton fibers.

However, this does not necessarily guarantee the quality of the cotton. Mercerization indeed improves resistance and shine, but it doesn't work wonders. What truly differentiates premium socks from commercial ones is the length of the cotton fibers used.

At Nobile, we use the best available cotton, which is handpicked and features extra-long Makò staples (33/35mm+). This process significantly contributes to the quality of our Filoscozia® certified socks.

Carding and Combing

After the cotton is hand-picked, it undergoes a combing and carding process. This process separates the long fibers from the shorter ones, making the cotton as smooth as possible.

Combing untangles the cotton curls, stretching the cotton fibers.

During carding, the cotton fibers are brushed and further stretched to align them in a single direction.

Low-quality cotton socks do NOT undergo the combing process, which is what makes the yarn noble.

Cotton Gassing

After the initial processing of the raw material, we proceed to gassing.

The cotton passes through a flame that removes superfluous hairiness from the fibers.

The yarn, thus smoothed, acquires shine, regularity, and resistance to pilling.

This process is not carried out by most cotton socks. Precisely for this reason, in low-quality products, you find annoying lint all over the sock.

Cotton Mercerization

The final process in cotton production is mercerization, which gives the sock a more shiny appearance, enhances the dyeing capabilities of the material, and strengthens the fabric.

Today, this process is carried out by bathing the cotton in caustic soda, where it is kept taut for 5-10 minutes at 30/40 degrees.

Mercerization creates the socks known in Italy as 'Filo di Scozia'.

Made in certified Filoscozia®

Filoscozia® is an Italian high-quality cotton yarn known for its superior durability and comfort. This cotton is mercerized, a process that enhances its properties. Mercerization makes the cotton stronger, more lustrous, and softer, allowing for vibrant, long-lasting colors. Therefore, garments like NOBILE's socks made from Filoscozia® offer both luxury and comfort.

Filoscozia® is a guarantee of the quality of the natural yarn.

Each "Filoscozia® the original" label, available in various formats, is protected by a unique, certified, and registered hologram. It can only be used by those who genuinely use the original Filoscozia®, and Nobile has the certification to prove it.

The quality of cotton can vary significantly due to the difference in the length of its staples.

Longer staples often used by luxury brands, such as those found in Egyptian cotton varieties like Filoscozia®, are highly desirable for their superior strength, softness, and durability.

They result in smoother and more refined fabrics that are less prone to pilling or fraying. In contrast, shorter staples found in lower-grade cotton can lead to rougher and weaker textiles that may wear out more quickly.

The length of cotton staples plays a crucial role in determining the overall quality and performance of the fabric, highlighting the importance of choosing cotton products made from high-quality, longer staples for optimal comfort and longevity.

With our socks, you can enjoy the superior benefits of exceptional comfort, durability, breathability, and overall craftsmanship, avoiding the drawbacks commonly associated with mediocre cotton socks made from poor quality cotton.

Where are the socks made?

Our socks are Made in Italy, entirely sewn in Racale, a town based in the south of Italy, known for being "the city of socks" thanks above all to the high skills developed by local craftsmen.

How should socks be washed?

Our socks are made with the best cotton in the world and are more resistant than common cotton or lisle thread socks.

However, for a better rendering of the natural shine and durability over time, it is recommended to wash by hand in cold water, with a non-aggressive neutral detergent.

Just leave the socks to soak in cold water with the detergent for less than 15 minutes, then rinse them, squeeze them, "beat" them and hang them out to dry.

The socks do not need to be ironed and can be worn as soon as they are dry. On the leg, they won't show any kind of creases or folds.

What are the shipping times?

After taking charge of your order, it takes about 24-48 business hours for the order processing and shipment.

Once shipped, the package will be delivered in 4-7 business days.
